AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A driver from California is in custody and more than 11 pounds of methamphetamine worth nearly $1 million has been seized in a weekend traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says a state trooper who pulled over a driver on Interstate 40 in Carson County called in a canine unit for help. Troopers then found several tape-wrapped packages of methamphetamine inside a spare tire.

The driver, 29-year-old Carmalia Bautista, of Corcoran, California, is jailed in Carson County on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities say it’s believed the illegal drugs were being taken from California to Missouri.
