LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say human remains have been found west of Las Cruces.

They say two landscape workers who were clearing weeds discovered the remains Monday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the scene and say the remains are severely decomposed and appeared to be wrapped in a tarp.

Authorities say it appears the remains were dumped there, although detectives don’t have any information as to how long they were in that location.

The Office of the Medical Examiner was also called to the scene to investigate.

Sheriff’s officials say the remains will be sent to Albuquerque for possible identification.
