PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police are investigating after human remains were discovered along a wooded riverbank.

A crew of tree trimmers working for the city found the partially clothed remains on Tuesday along the Woonasquatucket River in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood.

Police said an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday but would not comment on the identity or gender of the remains.

A 73-year-old woman was reported missing in the area last year after wandering from her home on Christmas. Police said it’s too soon to know if the remains are hers.
