KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A pheasant hunter was injured during a surprise encounter with a bear and two cubs south of Ronan.

Germaine White, a spokeswoman for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, says the bear made contact with the hunter near Ninepipe Reservoir on Tuesday afternoon. Details about the hunter’s injuries have not been released.

The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell reports (https://goo.gl/SNcKkx ) two other people were with the hunter at the time of the encounter.

Wildlife officials have not said if the animal was a black bear or a grizzly bear.
