HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The wife of former Forrest County Chief Deputy Charlton Bolton is following in the footsteps of her husband in seeking an acquittal or a new trial following the couple’s convictions on multiple counts of tax evasion and filing false tax returns.

Linda Bolton was found guilty Sept. 15 of five counts of filing false tax returns. A mistrial was declared for four counts of tax evasion.

Charles Bolton was convicted of four counts of tax evasion and five counts of filing false tax returns.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/2dVNZJ1) the government has not yet filed a response to either of the Boltons’ motions.

Linda Bolton’s attorney claims the government did not prove its case, so the guilty verdicts are not valid.
