EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man is expected to serve eight months behind bars in connection with a deadly crash that followed a pursuit by undercover officers last year.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/2eqZafA ) 29-year-old Justin Daley, of Hicksville, pleaded guilty Tuesday to manslaughter, reckless endangerment and reckless driving in the East Meadow crash that killed 58-year-old Ming Deng.
Prosecutors say Deng’s car was stopped at a red light when Daley struck the victim’s vehicle while fleeing from Nassau County police at a high rate of speed.
But defense attorney Brian Griffin says his client didn’t know the unmarked van was occupied by police officers.
The victim’s family has sued Daley and Nassau County. Officials for the police department didn’t immediately comment on the suit.
