AMHERST, Va. (AP) - An Amherst County woman has been killed and her three children hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrinne Geller said in a statement that 36-year-old Maria Magdalena Anavia-Roman died Tuesday morning in the wreck on Virginia State Route 151. Her children, ages 6, 12 and 14, were passengers in the car and were all taken to the hospital.

Geller says one of the children was then flown to UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville with life-threatening injuries.

Police say Anavia-Roman was pulling out of her driveway when she failed to yield to a SUV traveling on the road.

Geller says the SUV was unable to brake in time, striking Anavia-Roman’s car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
