PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say officers shot and wounded a man after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers while wearing a bulletproof vest.

Police say the 25-year-old man was shot several times during the Tuesday evening incident and is hospitalized in stable condition.

He’s expected to survive his injuries and police say he’ll be arrested after he’s released from the hospital.

His name is being withheld until he’s booked into jail.

Police say officers went to the area of east-central Phoenix to confront a man who reportedly had threatened another person with a gun.

Several officers fired at the man after he ignored commands to drop a handgun.

Police say the man pointed the handgun at officers while trying to conceal himself behind a police vehicle and then an electrical box.
