HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Testimony is underway in the capital murder trial of 22-year-old Daylon Waldrop of Hattiesburg.

Waldrop is charged with capital murder, conspiracy and kidnapping in connection to the shooting death of 26-year-old Robert Williams Jr.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/2e5ilwb) Williams’ then-girlfriend, Kimberly Nixon, was the first witness called to the stand Tuesday. She was with Williams when he bled to death after he was shot Aug. 1, 2013, in an apparent home invasion.

Waldrop, along with Derrick Bolton and David Fairley, was arrested and charged with capital murder for Williams’ death.

Bolton pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder and was sentenced by Helfrich to 35 years, with 22 years to serve. Fairley also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received the same sentence from Helfrich.
