NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve charged a man with fatally shooting a teenager in a Hudson Valley city late last summer.
Police in the Orange County city of Newburgh say they arrested 22-year-old Tyler Castro of Newburgh on Wednesday and charged him with second-degree murder in the slaying of Keyshan Gayle.
Police say the 18-year-old was shot in the back while standing at a Newburgh intersection late on the night Aug. 30. He died a short time later at a hospital. Gayle had graduated from Newburgh Free Academy the previous June.
A motive for the shooting hasn’t been released.
Castro is being held in custody pending his arraignment Thursday. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
