MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - A Cherokee County man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of killing a man and a woman in Muskogee.

The Muskogee Phoenix reports (https://bit.ly/2da3Yp4 ) that 25-year-old Eleno Maldonado Jr. of Moody’s was sentenced Wednesday after a jury previously convicted him on two counts of first-degree murder. He was convicted of the April 2015 shooting deaths of 25-year-old Nicholas Rutherford and 19-year-old Abby Seals inside the apartment of Seals’ boyfriend in Muskogee.

Authorities say Maldonado shot Rutherford because of a dispute over money or drugs and the Seals was killed because she was “at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Maldonado’s defense attorney argued there was no evidence, such as DNA or fingerprints, to connect Maldonado to the crime.
