BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in Burlington are warning against a scam in which callers purporting to be from the department are seeking financial information.
Police say people have been getting calls from scammers claiming to be members of the Burlington Police “Warrant Division,” which doesn’t exist.
Deputy Police Chief Shawn Burke says people are being told they’re wanted for a criminal offense and need to pay a monetary amount to make it go away.
Burke says police don’t make deals to wipe out warrants for a fee.
Police say anyone who receives these calls should hang up right away.
