KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) - An 18-year-old accused of escaping from the state’s Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center Kearney and stealing a vehicle has been given a year in jail.

Online court records say Zachary Turnbull, of Waco, was sentenced Tuesday in Kearney. He’d pleaded no contest to attempted escape attempted theft after prosecutors lowered both charges. He was given 100 days credit for time already served.

Turnbull and another youth escaped from the center on May on May 18. The other teen was caught a short time later. Authorities say a Kearney police officer captured Turnbull in a pasture gully after Turnbull ran from a pickup he’d stolen.
