WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies and police in Greensboro are investigating after a body was found in some woods along U.S. 421.

Greensboro police say the remains were found late Thursday morning in Forsyth County.

Chief sheriff’s Deputy Brad Stanley says police in Greensboro received information about the body as part of an investigation that led them to that location.

The Greensboro department called the sheriff’s office to help find the body.

Stanley says the body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office at Wake Forest Baptist Medical center for an autopsy.

Greensboro police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said it could take months to identify the remains, but officials hope to have preliminary results soon.

Officials could not immediately determine the gender or approximate age of the remains.
