SWEETWATER, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a woman who received thousands of dollars from people after claiming that she had cancer.

Local news organizations report that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Ashley Lively on a charge of theft on Wednesday after she admitted that she lied about having pancreatic cancer.

Officials say Lively raked in more than $8,000 through local community groups.

She was booked at the Monroe County Jail and made her $5,000 bond. It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
