MOTEGI, Japan (AP) - Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo had the fastest lap in Friday’s practice for the MotoGP of Japan.
Spain’s Lorenzo clocked 1 minute, 45.151 seconds at Twin Ring Motegi to finish 0.053 seconds ahead of Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso of Italy. Spain’s Maverick Vinales, riding a Suzuki, was third.
Honda rider Marc Marquez, who leads the overall standings and is seeking his fifth win, was fourth, 0.152 seconds off the pace.
Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi, who trails Marquez in the championship standings by 52 points, was seventh fastest.
Marquez could wrap up the 2016 title with a win on Sunday. Qualifying is on Saturday.
