MACON, Ga. (AP) - Patrol cars converged on a Macon school after people heard gunshots, but it turns out the gunfire had come from a local resident who was shooting at a squirrel.

The Telegraph of Macon (https://bit.ly/2emztx8 ) reports that authorities arrived at Heard Elementary School on Thursday morning to look for the source of the gunfire.

Investigators determined that a man across the street from the school had fired at a squirrel in his yard. It is unclear how many shots were fired.

Bibb County school system spokeswoman Stephanie Hartley says the school went under a precautionary lockdown.

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies went back on patrol after turning over the school to campus police and administrators at the building.
