MOORETON, N.D. (AP) - Authorities have identified a Grand Forks woman who was killed when she was struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 29 in southeastern North Dakota.

The Highway Patrol says 27-year-old Tawny Heck walking in the traffic lanes shortly before midnight Thursday when she was hit. She had been a passenger in a vehicle that had pulled onto the highway’s shoulder. The Patrol says the pickup driver slowed down as he approached the stopped vehicle, but he was unable to see the woman.

Heck died at the scene near Mooreton in Richland County. The pickup driver wasn’t hurt.
