SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man will be sentenced in December in the death of a 68-year-old who was attacked at his West Valley City home with a hammer and knife.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2eEm6Im) 20-year-old Gerardo Enrique Perez pleaded guilty to charges of murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault in the death of Leslie Beus.

Perez faces up to life in prison at his sentencing scheduled for Dec. 13.

He took a plea deal that dropped other charges.

Beus was attacked Jan. 28, 2015.

Charging documents say Beus tried to escape the attack but Perez followed him.

Witnesses said that later Perez was acting strangely and making noises like a zombie.

Beus was placed on life support with skull fractures and cuts.

He died Feb. 4, 2015.
