ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - St. George residents packed the room when independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin made a stop in the southern Utah community.
The Spectrum of St. George reports (https://bit.ly/2dWhElA ) that McMullin touted what he calls a “new conservative movement” during the Saturday night event. He discussed federal overreach, poverty and what he called the nation’s “leadership crisis.”
Event organizer and St. George resident Janna Barnes she hopes Utah will vote for McMullin as a rebuke to Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Recent polls conducted by Monmouth University and Y2 analytics show McMullin earning the support of about 2 in 10 likely Utah voters, placing him not far behind Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Both polls found that about 7 in 10 Utah voters expressed an unfavorable view of the major party nominees.
