CANTON, N.Y. (AP) - A former U.S. Border Patrol agent has pleaded guilty to attacking a couple who stopped to help after his wife was run over and killed by a vehicle on a northern New York road.
The St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office says Bryan McDonald pleaded guilty Friday to attempted assault.
McDonald was initially charged with assault after his 33-year-old wife Ashley McDonald of Lyon Mountain was struck and killed on Route 37 in Massena last December. Troopers say he punched a couple in their mid-60s who had stopped at the scene.
Investigators say Ashley McDonald was lying in the road when she was hit. Her death remains under investigation.
Prosecutors say Bryan McDonald resigned from his job and he’ll be sentenced Dec. 5 to five years’ probation.
