VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Authorities are looking for a driver who they say hit a trooper’s cruiser on Interstate 264 and then fled the scene.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with Virginia State Police said in a news release that the incident occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Anaya says someone driving a 2015 silver Nissan crashed into the back of the cruiser near a safety work zone on the roadway.

The trooper was not injured. State transportation workers saw the driver exit the interstate after the crash.

Police say officers found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned a short time later. It’s unclear exactly where that vehicle was located.
