Public support for legalizing marijuana is at 60 percent — the highest level in a 47-year Gallup trend — according to a survey from the longtime polling outfit released Wednesday.

The 60 percent level of support eclipses the 58 percent level from 2013 and 2015. In 2013, support had reached a majority for the first time after Washington state and Colorado legalized marijuana for recreational use.

Overall, support was up from a decade ago across all age levels and political parties.

Marijuana use for recreational purposes is also currently legal in Alaska, Oregon and the District of Columbia, and there are a number of ballot initiatives on the issue in various states this year.
