COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities say a suspect was detained after a woman and her two young sons were found stabbed in Costa Mesa.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/2elbyeu) all three victims were taken to trauma centers in critical condition Tuesday night.

City fire Capt. Chris Coates says paramedics responding at an apartment complex found the three with stab wounds and an injured police officer.

The oldest boy, 11, was stabbed several times in the torso and underwent exploratory surgery to determine the extent of his injuries.

Police Lt. Greg Scott says a male suspect was detained but investigators did not say what his relationship was to the mother and kids.

The nature of the officer’s injury wasn’t immediately known.
