ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man is asking to have his life prison sentence reconsidered just one month after his 2014 conviction for the kidnapping and murder of a Waterford teacher was upheld.
The Caledonian Record reports (https://bit.ly/2etF9lq ) 32-year-old Allen Prue, acting as his own attorney, penned a letter requesting a sentence reconsideration. It arrived at the Caledonia County Courthouse on Oct. 14.
Prue argues he was treated unfairly when Judge Robert Bent denied a motion to delay his sentencing until after the trial of his wife and co-defendant.
Prosecutors say the Prues kidnapped and killed St. Johnsbury Academy teacher Melissa Jenkins after luring the 33-year-old and her toddler son out of their house on March 25, 2012.
Allen Prue is serving his life sentence at North Lake Correctional Facility in Michigan.
