ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Authorities say residents have been evacuated from a nine-story apartment building in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County because of structural damage.

Fairfax County fire officials say units were sent to the building on Wakefield Drive on Sunday after a resident noticed cracks in some columns. Fire officials ordered everyone to leave the building.

County officials are assessing the structural integrity of the building.

The Red Cross says 180 apartments were evacuated.
