TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - City leaders in Toledo have approved a second outdoor public-drinking area in the downtown area.

The new entertainment district will be in an area that includes Toledo’s downtown arena and convention center and its minor league ballpark.

Toledo’s City Council signed off on the plan this past week.

Bar owners in Toledo have been happy with the roll-out of the city’s first outdoor public-drinking area earlier this year.

The entertainment districts allow revelers to legally take open containers of alcohol outside.

Middletown, Cleveland and Canton are among the other Ohio cities that have similar areas or have taken steps to create them.

Ohio last year enacted the law intended to spur economic development. It allows cities to establish areas exempt from the state’s prohibition against consuming alcohol in public places.
