HALTOM CITY, Texas (AP) - A North Texas woman has been indicted on a murder count in the fatal scalding of her 2-year-old grandson.

The Tarrant County grand jury returned the indictment last week against 43-year-old Patricia Flores of Haltom City in the death of grandson Lyfe Flores. She’s been free on $75,000 bond.

Investigators say the child went without medical attention for six days after he was scalded March 24 by hot bath water. Haltom City police Detective Matt Spillane says the lack of medical treatment led to an infection that led to his death at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas on April 4.

Flores was a fugitive until turning herself in to the Frio County Sheriff’s Office in Pearsall on April 14. She was initially charged with injury to a child by omission.
