SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A former nursing home aide will spend four months of weekends in jail for punching an 87-year-old patient in the face and pushing him.

The aide, 37-year-old Samantha Grover, was also forced to give up her certified nursing aide license and will spend five years on probation for the October 2015 incident at James Square Health and Rehabilitation Centre in Syracuse.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports (https://bit.ly/2euoUor ) Grover apologized to the victim’s family Wednesday as she was sentenced in Onondaga (ahn-uhn-DAH’-gah) County Court.

Judge Anthony Aloi said caring for Alzheimer’s patients can be frustrating, but that was no excuse for Grover’s actions.
