NORTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - Police say speed appears to have been a factor in a Long Island crash that left two 20-year-old men dead and a woman with serious injuries.

Authorities say Zachary Powell of East Moriches (moh-RIH’-chihs) and Christian Goody of Shelter Island were killed when Powell’s sedan careened off County Road 51 late Tuesday while trying to weave through traffic in Northampton and crashed into the woods.

Officials say Ashley Picozzi of St. James suffered broken bones in the crash and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Police say neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been involved.

Powell’s family declined to comment Wednesday.
