SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Scottsdale say they’re investigating a carjacking involving a man in custody who escaped from a hospital emergency room.

A Salt River Police officer was watching a male prisoner inside of the emergency room at Honor Health-Osborn around noon Friday.

They say 27-year-old Rodolfo Avalos was facing numerous felony charges from an incident earlier in the day.

The tribal police officer out of the room briefly while Avalos was handcuffed to the bed and being watched by a security guard.

Avalos was able to free his handcuff from the bed and pushed past the security guard, then fled the hospital and approached a woman who was stopped in her vehicle.

Police say Avalos got into the car and forced the driver out and sped off. He’s still at large.
