TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa football players will honor former NFL defensive lineman Dennis Byrd during their game this weekend against Tulane.

Byrd was killed last weekend in a car wreck in Oklahoma. Byrd played football at the University of Tulsa, then went on to the New York Jets before his career was ended by a neck injury.

Tulsa officials say players will wear stickers on their helmets Saturday that say “BYRD 48”, in reference to the number on Byrd’s college jersey. There will also be a moment of silence before the game begins and Tulsa’s team flag will be at half-staff.

The school says the number 48 will also be painted on the field at the 48-yard hash marks.

Byrd died Oct. 15 in a wreck near Claremore. He was 50.
