EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a worker at a Jack in the Box restaurant in El Monte was shot to death by a masked gunman in what appears to be a botched robbery.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said the suspect went into the restaurant Friday evening and immediately jumped over the front counter.

Deputy Ryan Rouzan said the masked man fired at least one shot, which struck the victim in the torso, then jumped back over the counter and fled empty-handed.

The victim and suspect have not been identified.
