HAMMOND, La. (AP) - A Ponchatoula man says he got lucky when he jumped into the water to rescue a woman and her child and that he’d do it again.

The Hammond Daily Star (https://bit.ly/2eAT7CP ) reports Sunday that Josh Burns was traveling with his wife on I-55 Friday when they noticed a crash.

It was a dump truck that went over the side of an elevated section of Interstate 55 at Ruddock.

A man surfaced and started yelling about a child.

Burns took off his shirt and gave his wife everything in his pocket before jumping into the water.

He went underwater multiple times, trying to pull open the door. Spectators then lowered a hammer and crowbar which Burns used to break a window.

State police says the crash is under investigation.
