DETROIT (AP) - R&B; artist The Ben will be featured at an annual fundraising event for a Detroit nonprofit that provides temporary housing for survivors of persecution seeking asylum in the U.S.

The Rwandan native - a former resident of Freedom House Detroit - will perform Thursday at a reception kicking off the organization’s annual benefit dinner and auction. The event will be held at the Atheneum Suite Hotel.

Freedom House Executive Director Deborah Drennan says the annual event is Freedom House’s largest and most important fundraiser. It also will feature a short film about how Freedom House has helped two former residents.

Tickets are $150 and are available online.
