NEW ROADS, La. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been hospitalized after a fire broke out at an assisted living complex in New Roads.

Fire officials in Pointe Coupee Parish tell media outlets that the blaze happened Sunday night at the False River Manor Apartments.

WBRZ-TV reports that officials say one resident was taken to the hospital with second-degree burns. Another resident was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

Pointe Coupee Parish sheriff’s Capt. Steven Juge says the fire had spread to three units. He says one unit was completely destroyed.

It is unclear what caused the blaze.
