PANTON, Vt. (AP) - Fire officials say a 63-year-old woman has died in a house fire in Panton, Vermont, and a second person has been hospitalized.

Vergennes Deputy Chief Matt Fraley says the fire broke early Monday at the home, and it took crews a while to get the flames under control because of the wind.

The body of the victim was found in the back part of the home.

Deputy Chief Todd Wilkins said the circumstances are still under investigation, but it’s common for people to become disoriented during a fire so they can’t find their way out.

The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

Fraley says a 51-year-old woman in the house was hospitalized with burns.

Police have not released the names of the victim.
