JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a former New Albany municipal court clerk has been arrested and charged with embezzlement.

The state auditor’s office says Jennifer Galloway was taken into custody after a Union County grand jury handed down an indictment accusing her of one count of embezzlement.

It wasn’t immediately known whether Galloway has an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

The auditor’s office says its agents have provided evidence to prosecutors that Galloway failed to deposit more than $200,000 in cash bonds and court fines received. They’ve demanded that she repay the money.

Galloway was the court clerk of the City of New Albany Municipal Court from April 2009 through October 2013.
