MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Hampton man has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2ei0I9r ) 61-year-old Ronald Rand was sentenced Monday to the life term after a jury in August found him guilty of first-degree murder in the Dec. 13, 2015, death of 51-year-old Michelle Key.
Key, of Waterloo, died on a couch in Rand’s living room after being shot in the neck with a sawed-off shotgun.
Prosecutors argued Rand killed Key because she laughed as she acknowledged cheating on him.
