HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. (AP) - Investigators are seeking the cause of a fire that killed three people and damaged at least four units at a New Jersey apartment complex.

Somerset County authorities say the fire at the Hillsborough Garden Apartments was reported around 10 p.m. Monday. It apparently started in a second-floor apartment.

Witnesses say the fire quickly spread to three more apartments before it was contained.

The three victims were all found in an upstairs corner unit where officials say the fire may have started. Their names have not been released pending notification of relatives.

Officials say no other residents were injured in the blaze. But 12 people were displaced by the fire and were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The blaze was the third fatal fire in Somerset County this year.
