GUERNEVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A 7-month-old boy who allegedly was abducted by his mother in Northern California has been found safe.

Henry Massey and his mother were discovered Tuesday afternoon near Downieville in Sierra County. The baby allegedly was taken from his grandmother’s home in Guerneville on Sunday.

Authorities say 35-year-old Hanna Ashley was recognized by a grocery store clerk from an Amber Alert issued Monday. The clerk flagged down a California Highway Patrol officer, who spotted the woman walking along a road with a duffel bag.

Authorities say the officer heard the baby crying from inside the duffel bag and arrested the mother after a struggle.

She was jailed and it’s unclear if she has a lawyer.

The boy is in protective custody.
