DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Records show a northern Alabama mother told sheriff’s deputies her 18-year-old son had downloaded child pornography.

Citing court records, Al.com (https://bit.ly/2e6hzKA ) reports that the Morgan County Special Victims Unit began investigating Kody Austin Lawrence Cox, of Hartselle, earlier this month after receiving a report from the teen’s mother. Cox was arrested at Danville High School on Thursday.

An arrest affidavit says the mother handed over a portable storage device containing sexually explicit images of nude children.

Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin says authorities don’t believe any local children were harmed, as all the material appears to have been downloaded from websites.

Cox faces up to 20 years in prison under a possession of child pornography charge.

His attorney, Larry Madison, didn’t immediately respond to Al.com’s request for comment.
