ZACHARY, La. (AP) - State police say a dump truck driver who ran a stop sign in Zachary caused a three-vehicle wreck that claimed the life of a 29-year-old Baton Rouge man.

Trooper First Class Bryan Lee said in a news release Gilbert Rivera died when his car hit the tail end of a dump truck on U.S. Highway 61 Monday.

Bryan said Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

He says the force of the impact with the dump truck sent Rivera’s car spinning into the path of a pickup driven by 59-year-old Gary Sumerall, of Baker.

Lee says the driver of the dump truck, 26-year-old Devante Dixon, of St. Francisville, will face counts of negligent homicide and running a stop sign after he is released from the hospital.
