WASHINGTON (AP) - The driver of an ice cream truck has been shot and seriously wounded in southeast Washington.

The Metropolitan Police Department tells local media that they found the ice cream vendor in his truck with several gunshot wounds after receiving a report of the shooting Monday night.

Police say the man had been shot seven times - at least three times in the stomach and twice in the arm.

Witnesses told police that as he was being shot at, the ice cream truck driver continued to drive away from a residential street to a strip mall on Alabama Avenue.

The man was conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital. Police say he is in critical condition.
