LOS ANGELES (AP) - The creator of the Los Angeles-based Dickies Girl clothing line has pleaded guilty to hiding millions of dollars in Israeli banks to avoid U.S. taxes.

City News Service says Masud Sarshar of Malibu entered his plea Wednesday to federal charges of tax evasion and conspiracy. He’ll must serve two years in prison and repay more than $8 million to the IRS.

Prosecutors said between 2006 and 2009, Sarshar diverted some $21 million in income to Israeli banks.

Sarshar owned Apparel Limited Inc. He began dying Dickies overalls in dozens of colors and in 2002 he parlayed that into Dickies Girl, which sold a licensed line of the colorful pants and other items for juniors.

He gave up the license two years ago. It was acquired by another LA garment maker.
