TOPSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man is recovering after authorities say he became trapped in a 10-foot-deep hole when the concrete floor of his screened-in porch collapsed.

Fire crews responded to the Topsfield home just before 6 p.m. Monday. Officials say the victim had called police from a cellphone he had on him at the time.

Officials say firefighters were lowered into the hole to rescue the man. They pulled him to safety about 20 minutes later.

The man was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released. He wasn’t immediately identified.

It’s unclear what caused the porch to collapse.
