SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A California lawmaker is complying with an investigation into his re-election campaign ahead of a scheduled court hearing to compel him to turn over campaign documents.

The Fair Political Practices Commission was seeking the documents from Assemblyman David Hadley for nearly three months.

The Torrance Republican is embroiled in one of the most expensive campaigns for the Legislature this year. The race has drawn more than $8.6 million in campaign contributions and outside spending on both sides.

Nearly $300,000 of that was spent backing Hadley by an outside group. Hadley’s campaign is not allowed to coordinate with the group, but they share a political consultant.

Agency lawyers say Hadley’s communications with the consultant, provided Wednesday, could help determine whether his campaign illegally coordinated with the independent expenditure committee.
