FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A 23-year-old Fresno man has been found guilty of a hate crime for assaulting an elderly Sikh man and urging his friend to run over the victim.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2eVpr1o ) Daniel Coronel Wilson Jr. targeted Amrik Singh Bal because he believed the bearded victim was a terrorist. Bal wore a turban and robe when he was attacked. Wilson was also found guilty of felony assault causing great bodily injury.

Police say that last December, Bal was attacked by Wilson and a teen with their fists. After the beating, Bal tried to run away but the teen veered into Bal, knocking him into the air before he slammed into pavement.

Wilson stood trial alone because the teen committed suicide in April.

Wilson is being held without bail until he is sentenced. He faces up to eight years in prison.
