BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A jury has found a Beckley man guilty of fatally shooting his girlfriend’s husband.

The Register-Herald (https://bit.ly/2faiezy ) reports that 49-year-old Michael Stines was found guilty of first-degree murder and wanton endangerment on Wednesday. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

In 2013, Stines fatally shot 39-year-old Christopher Ward at Ward’s home in Beaver.

According to testimony, Stines entered the residence with a gun. He then fought with Ward and shot him.

The defense argued that Stines acted in self-defense. The prosecution pointed out that Christopher sustained multiple lacerations on his head, while Stines sustained only one minor injury.

Defense attorney Kris Kostenko says he plans to appeal the conviction.
