RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - More ads in North Carolina’s U.S. Senate race seek to paint either positively or negatively Democrat Deborah Ross‘ past working at the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.

A commercial the National Republican Senatorial Committee began airing Wednesday focuses on a 1990’s court case for which Ross and other ACLU attorneys filed a brief with the state Supreme Court. A majority of justices upheld a lower-court decision in which a 13-year-old was tried and convicted of sex-related crimes in adult court. The ACLU argued the teenager should have been tried in juvenile court.

Ross‘ campaign also unveiled another ad featuring the chief sponsor of laws creating a state sex offender registry. The sponsor says Burr is running false ads alleging Ross opposed the registry.
